In Motion City, the sidewalks glide like gentle rivers, humming underfoot and carrying people wherever they wish to go. Ten-year-old Oliver, with his gap-toothed grin and red sneakers, loves them more than anyone, and every morning he and his scruffy terrier Pip ride the bright yellow path to school. Together they know every route in the city, from the loop to the bakery to the long straight glide to the library. But Oliver begins to notice small things: a flicker in the path lights, a sidewalk that pauses a second too long.

When the sidewalks suddenly start delivering people to the wrong places, Oliver decides to investigate. His search leads him to Mabel Harrow, the short, silver-haired engineer who built parts of the system long ago and now repairs what she can. Mabel explains that the paths read signals from tiny chips in people's shoes and bags, and that the old central control is confused. Oliver sketches diagrams in his notebook and tests sensors with Mabel. This gentle tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows Oliver and Pip as they learn how the sidewalks work and why machines can fail. It can be read on Online Masal.
