The Cloud Painter's Apprentice

High in the mountains, in a workshop with windows open to the sky, an old cloud painter named Master Aldric works each morning, sending soft swirling patterns drifting across the heavens. His apprentice is Nora, an eleven-year-old girl in a paint-stained green apron who dreams of painting the biggest cloud in the whole sky. Eager to begin, she learns from him that cloud painting is like growing a garden: it takes a little practice every day.

When Master Aldric leaves to gather fresh paint from the mountain springs, Nora ignores his advice about small swirls and attempts a giant dragon instead, with results that hide the sun and chill the valley below. Rather than scold her, the old painter helps her repair the sky and shows her how color, light, and movement must dance together.
