The Snowflake Violin

In Frost Hollow, an early and stubborn winter has buried the village in snow, made food scarce, and left everyone feeling the endless cold. Inside a small cottage, a girl named Eliza practises her violin by the fire while Pip, her little brown sparrow, chirps along from her shoulder in the red scarf she knitted for him. Eliza holds a quiet wish to play for the whole village one day.

Exploring the attic one morning, Eliza discovers a long wooden box that holds a violin carved from pale winter wood, smooth and cold like ice that never melts. When she draws the bow, the notes become delicate snowflakes that glitter and twirl around her head, and Grandpa Orin recognises the instrument as the snowflake violin, which plays the feelings of your heart. This gentle tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows Eliza as she learns what her music can show, and as she and Mrs. Hallow plan a winter concert for neighbours worn down by the hard season. The story can be read on Online Masal.
