The Secret Star Clock

In the hilltop town of Starfall, eleven-year-old Mira spends her days as an apprentice in Master Orin's cluttered clock shop, winding springs and polishing brass gears. With her curly black braids and a tiny star-shaped birthmark on her cheek, she knows the shop well, yet one object remains a mystery: a star clock with a dark blue face painted with constellations, its silver hands silent for decades. When Master Orin finally shows it to her, Mira is captivated and longs to hear it tick.

That night, Mira and her pet mouse Pip sneak downstairs to examine the clock and discover that a small gear is missing. Their search through the shop calls for patience and curiosity, and Pip's keen senses help them find the lost gear. Even so, the clock stays still, and Mira must work out how to connect the star dial to the ticking heart. Master Orin encourages her with stories of travelers who used the stars to tell time.
