Coral is a small fish with shimmering turquoise scales who enjoys exploring the ocean. During her travels she comes across a hidden reef that shines with a strange blue light, resembling countless sapphires beneath the sea. There she meets Finn, an old sea turtle who has looked after the reef for many years. Finn explains the tides and the rare glow to Coral, and she promises to help protect this special place.
News of the beautiful Sapphire Reef spreads, and soon visitors arrive, among them curious fish, silvery sardines and a pod of dolphins. Coral is glad to share the wonder, yet she notices that the growing crowds are harming the delicate coral. With Pip, a tiny seahorse, and Marla, a wise manta ray, she works out a plan to create safe pathways so everyone can enjoy the reef without damaging it.
