The Sapphire Frog

Sapphire is a small tree frog with sapphire-blue skin, amber-gold eyes and a curiosity that stretches as wide as the jungle around him. His mother, Mother May, teaches him one rule above all: look before you leap. One morning he follows a trail of tiny blue flowers farther than he has ever gone and finds a still, ancient pool where strange shapes seem to dance on the dark water. Remembering her words, he pauses at the edge instead of jumping in.

At the pool he meets Old Tutu, a huge turtle with a mossy shell who has watched over the water for hundreds of years, and Pip, a cheerful orange newt wearing a fallen leaf as a hat. Old Tutu explains that the pool shelters shy, endangered creatures and that its secrecy keeps them safe.
