In a sunny corner of town, behind a tall brick wall, lives Rusty, a cheerful copper-orange robot who tends his garden with absolute precision. Wearing a green gardening apron and carrying a tiny watering can on his back, Rusty is certain that rules are the secret to perfect flowers. Every plant receives exactly one hundred milliliters of water and six hours of sunlight, measured and checked against his gauges. Yet despite his careful calculations, the flowers begin to droop, and Rusty cannot understand what he is doing wrong.
One morning a girl named Maya, with curly black hair in two puffy buns and a canvas bag of gardening tools, stops at the courtyard and notices the wilting plants. She explains that each plant is different: the rose needs more water than the succulents, and the succulents need less water and more sun. With Grandpa Leo's gentle encouragement, Rusty agrees to try something new. Together the robot and the girl examine leaves and soil, keep a chart of each plant's needs, and learn that patience matters as much as precision.
