The Library Beneath the Playground

When Olivia's ball rolls into the tall grass by the old oak tree, she finds a small trapdoor that has creaked open beneath the playground. Climbing down a wooden ladder, she enters a warm golden room full of books and meets Pippin, a small book-sorter in a burgundy vest, and Mr. Penn, a stooped man with round glasses and a green bow tie. They explain that this hidden library holds books about tomorrow.

At first the predictions seem like magic, but when a gust of wind sends a promised coin into a drain, the book rewrites itself. Mr. Penn teaches Olivia that the future is not fixed, and that choices change the story. Later, a dark green book warns of a threat to the school garden, and Olivia gathers others to act. This gentle fantasy by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN explores curiosity, courage and community, and can be read on Online Masal.
