In a snowy land of the far south, where the wind sings and the ice shines, there lives a small penguin named Pip. Round and curious, with a fluffy grey head, a tiny blue scarf and round snow-goggle spectacles, Pip spends his nights at the edge of the ice staring up at the southern sky. His questions come faster than he can answer them: where do the stars go during the day, and why do some shine brighter than others? His grandmother Mabel, wrapped in her warm red shawl, tells him that his questions are the best kind of treasure.

Determined to see the stars closer, Pip decides to build a telescope. He stacks snow and ice into a long tube and smooths it with his flippers, while his best friend Tobin, in his green striped bobble hat, helps carry the blocks. When Pip finally puts his eye to the cold, clear ice, the sky opens up: craters on the moon, faint specks of light, and one night a shimmering ribbon of green, pink and purple dancing across the stars. Mabel explains that it is an aurora, and Pip is eager to share it with the whole colony. This tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN can be read on Online Masal.
