The Mermaid's Mountain Holiday

Marina, a mermaid living in a cozy cave under the sea lit by glowing jellyfish, dreams of mountains and snow. Each night she combs her long teal hair and gazes at a picture of a mountain, wondering what it would be like to stand on top of the world. Her friend Professor Bramble, an inventor with a twitching white beard, builds her a traveling chair with a glass dome and a bottom filled with seawater so she can breathe, and Marina sets off to see the mountains for herself.

On her journey, the chair rolls through a flower-filled meadow, a deep green forest, and up into snowy heights where her ears pop and the air turns cool. She meets a curious rabbit, a tapping woodpecker, and a delicate deer, exchanging stories about coral reefs, singing whales, and glowing fish for lessons about bees, bark, moss, and ferns. In a snowy mountain village, Pip the marmot in his red knitted scarf and Granny Hazel welcome her with herbal tea and show her edelweiss and gentians among the rocks.
