The Little Winter Fox

Pip is a small fox with bright orange-red fur, big amber eyes and a fluffy white-tipped tail. One morning he wakes to find the forest covered in the first deep snow of winter, and he lives in the den with his mother, father and Granny Fox. The day starts with delight at the white world outside, until Granny Fox notices that the little carved box kept on the shelf above the hearth for generations is missing. While the grown foxes worry about the deep snow, Pip spots a line of tiny tracks pressed into the fresh snow beside the den door and decides to follow them.

The trail carries him away from home, past tall pines and a frozen stream and up the mountain, where the path grows steep and rocky and the cold wind makes him want to turn back. Remembering his parents' words to be careful and never give up, and Granny Fox's advice that small things can lead to big surprises, he keeps sniffing out the tracks until they end at a snowdrift and a forgotten cabin. This gentle winter tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN is suited to young children being read to at bedtime and to early readers starting out on their own, and it can be read on Online Masal.
