Mira is a quiet girl who loves to paint, yet words often tangle in her mouth. In a sunny classroom she watches and mixes colors in her mind, and at home she keeps a special box of paper masks: a happy one with a big red smile, a sad one with blue tear drops, and a brave one with strong, straight eyebrows. Wearing them, just for herself, helps her show what is inside.
When her teacher announces a school play about a rainbow, Mira's tummy feels wobbly at the thought of standing before everyone. So does Theo, a tall boy with floppy blond hair who is scared of singing a solo. Mira offers her masks, and soon Priya and Jonah join in. But the day before the play, a gust of wind blows the masks into a mud puddle, and the friends must clean and repair them together.
