The Ink Butterfly

Sophie is a child who takes great pleasure in drawing, and one evening she finishes what she considers her finest work: a butterfly made of deep blue ink. She leaves the picture on the windowsill before going to sleep, and at midnight something unusual happens. The butterfly lifts off the page and flies out into a world lit by the moon.

During the night the ink butterfly travels through gardens and over rooftops, passes through forests and reaches a carnival. It encounters a firefly, a cat and the moon, and from every place it visits it gathers lovely patterns that settle on its wings. As daybreak nears, the butterfly senses a pull toward home and remembers Sophie. This gentle story by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN can be read on Online Masal, and it explores creativity, the tie between a child and her artwork, and the wonder of discovering the world.
