In the bright blue ocean where sunlight dances on the waves, a little seahorse named Crystal lives with a body made of clear, sparkling glass and a faint aqua tint. Light bends and twinkles through her like tiny stars, and because she is almost invisible in the water, she loves playing hide-and-seek among the colorful reefs. Her favorite game takes place in the coral maze, a tangled forest of pink, purple and orange branches whose every twist and turn she knows by heart.

One sunny morning Crystal notices two young fish, Pip and Nibblet, who have wandered away from Old Coral, the wise elder fish, and become lost deep inside the coral maze. The water grows dim, the passages all look the same, and the two little fish are frightened. Crystal wants to help, but she is so small and clear that they may not even see her. Summoning her courage, she darts out of hiding and offers to lead them home, guiding them through narrow gaps and secret paths that only a small, clear seahorse can find.
