The Crystal Pencil

Ella finds a sparkling silver-blue pencil on a dusty shelf in Grandpa's shop, and the lines she draws start to glow and come to life. A tiny banana appears and fades, leaving her curious about what else the crystal pencil can do. The next morning she spreads out her biggest sheet of paper and draws a miniature zoo with a fence, a gate and little paths, sure that adding a few animals could not cause any trouble.

The animals do come to life: Pip, a cheeky thumb-sized monkey; Tilly, a slow tortoise with spectacles and a woven satchel; and Bo, a small blue-grey elephant in a red polka-dot neckerchief. As Pip climbs the fruit bowl and Bo knocks over crayons, Ella learns that magic needs care and guidance. When the pencil's sparkle begins to fade, she must stay calm and act in time.
