The Button-Sized Explorer

Ben is smaller than most children his age, and one dull afternoon on his bedroom floor he comes across an odd silver measuring tape near his sock drawer. The moment he touches the cool metal, the room blurs and stretches around him, and he finds himself no taller than a button, with his bed rising like a mountain and a fallen pencil stretching across the carpet like a log. Frightened but curious, he wonders how he will ever get back to his normal size.

A friendly spider named Pip, wearing an acorn-cap hat and a red thread scarf, appears and offers to lead him to the desk where the measuring tape lies. Their route takes them beneath the bed, up the bookshelf and down the lamp cord, with his own dog Max coming close to spotting them.
