Freddie, a small boy with tousled chestnut-brown hair and a gap-toothed smile, sleeps in a little wooden bed carved with a smiling moon and set on four squeaky brass wheels. Each night, once he starts to snore, the bed quietly rolls out of his room, down the stairs and into the moonlit streets, so that he wakes in a different spot: beside a bakery, under orchard apple trees, near a duck pond, behind a tall clock tower or close to a fire station. He never knows where the night will carry him.

One night the bed travels farther than ever, and Freddie wakes on streets he does not recognize. With the carved moon flickering anxiously, he puts on his red slippers and tells the bed they will find their way home, using remembered landmarks, a friendly dog's hint and the kind baker's breadcrumb trail. Written by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN, this gentle story about curiosity, courage and the comfort of home can be read on Online Masal.
