The Sleeping Giant

In the mountain village of Hearthstone, thick stone walls and chimneys that puff like sleepy dragons hold back the cold. The villagers trust that their warmth comes from a giant sleeping deep beneath the mountain, his gentle breath rising through the rocks like a cozy blanket. Nine-year-old Noah, small and wiry, with messy dark brown hair and a red wool coat, loves to stand on the hill and feel that summer-grass air even in December. Elder Mira, the village storyteller, reminds everyone that the giant once promised to keep them warm and must never be forgotten.

One winter morning Noah wakes shivering: the warm air is gone, the pond is frozen solid, and the cold deepens until the river turns to ice. As the villagers grumble that the giant has forgotten them, Mira asks for a brave boy with a kind heart to climb the mountain. This tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows Noah as he sets off with bread, cheese and his green scarf, and meets a tiny dream fairy who guards the giant's sleep. The story can be read on Online Masal.
