Sophie is standing at the bow of her family's sailboat with her red boots on the deck and her brass compass in hand when she notices a green shape on the horizon. Drawing nearer, she finds the island is not green at all but covered in shoes, from towering boots and tiny slippers to sneakers hanging from branches. A small bird named Pip, wearing a red ribbon on one leg, greets her and leads her along a path of sandals to a driftwood workshop, where Master Cobble, an old shoemaker with wild white hair, tells her that the island catches every shoe lost at sea and that each one carries the story of the person who lost it.

The visit grows urgent when Granny Tull, a tall figure with shells in her silver hair, warns of a great tide higher than any in a hundred years. Sophie gathers the island's crabs, gulls and gentle sea creatures into teams to carry, stack and lift thousands of shoes to higher ground while Pip scouts the rising water. Written by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN, the tale can be read on Online Masal and follows a child who turns curiosity into responsibility.
