The Soup of Seven Smiles

In a village set among green hills, Grandma Hazel keeps a little house that always smells of something cooking. Her granddaughter Emma, a cheerful girl with curly dark brown pigtails, enjoys visiting her. One sunny morning, Grandma Hazel opens a dusty old cookbook and shows her the recipe for the happiest soup in the world, which calls for vegetables and seven mysterious smiles. Each smile must be gathered through kind deeds, and every good act makes a new ingredient appear in the pot.

Emma sets out with her red sneakers and canvas satchel, helping a neighbor with a heavy basket, sitting beside a lonely friend, sharing her lunch with a tired old man, weeding a garden, comforting a new student, and inviting a friend to help make the soup.
