The Hungry Backpack

Oliver is thrilled with his new orange canvas backpack, complete with navy straps, a wide zippered mouth and two round buckle eyes. But on the first day of school, something strange happens: the apple inside vanishes with a CHOMP. Before long, pencils, notebooks, shoes and even furniture start to disappear, and Oliver realizes his backpack is eating everything around it. At home the hungry bag swallows a chair, a lamp and the kitchen table, and at school it grows bolder by the hour.

When the backpack devours the entire playground in one giant gulp and swells to the size of a house, Oliver understands he cannot ignore the problem any longer. He unzips the enormous mouth and climbs inside, landing in a strange world of swallowed objects where he meets a small talking eraser named Eraser. This illustrated children's tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN explores friendship, responsibility and the consequences of careless habits in a playful, funny way. Young readers who enjoy gentle fantasy and school stories can follow Oliver's journey, which can be read on Online Masal.
