Freddie, a young fox with bright russet fur and a snowy-tipped tail, believes he is the best player in the forest. He loves hiding, chasing, and hunting for acorns, and he boasts that no one can beat him. One sunny morning, his much smaller brother toddles out of the den, all fluffy orange fur and oversized ears, and asks to play too. Freddie doubts the little cub can keep up, but he agrees to let him try.
As the brothers play their first games together, the little brother giggles while hiding, trips over a root while chasing, and finds only pebbles instead of acorns. Freddie snaps at first, but then remembers how his own mother encouraged him, and he begins to teach instead of criticize. Day by day they practice, and Freddie learns that patience is its own kind of skill. Written by Jane MEADOW, this gentle tale for young children and the adults who read to them explores sibling rivalry and encouragement. You can read it on Kids Tale Book.
