Oliver is a quiet boy who feels at home with stillness and with small creatures. One day his mum brings home a rescued kitten with fluffy grey fur, white paws and one ear bent like a folded leaf. He names her Pip and tells her she is safe, but the little cat is frightened and shy, so she hides beneath the sofa and watches him from the shadows with wide amber-green eyes. Remembering his mum's advice that rescued kittens need time, Oliver chooses not to reach for her.

Instead, he sets out soft, dark hiding places around the house and leaves a red collar with a tiny silver bell close to Pip's spot. He speaks to her in a quiet voice and never grabs or chases her. Slowly, day by day, curiosity draws her out, and her small steps toward him show how trust can grow through patience and gentle care. Written by Jane MEADOW, this calm story about kindness and waiting can be read on Kids Tale Book.
