Noah's days on the small farm follow a steady rhythm: he runs to the paddock each morning to visit his chestnut mare, Star, brushing her coat and bringing hay and water. He confides his thoughts and dreams to her, certain that a horse cannot answer. Then, on a bright morning with a bucket of oats in hand, Star surprises him by speaking, and she has plenty to say about breakfast, the paths they walk and the dusty condition of her hay.

Together they take the hill path and wander into the far meadow, and Noah begins to slow his pace and notice what Star truly prefers. Star recalls racing the wind when she was young, and Noah describes the treehouse he hopes to build. Through these exchanges the ordinary farm becomes a place of discovery, and Noah sees Star as a friend with her own thoughts and feelings. Jane MEADOW's gentle story about listening and small acts of care can be read on Kids Tale Book.
