Lily lives beside a wide green meadow and spends her mornings in red rubber boots by the fence, watching the dark wood beyond the grass. On a misty day she finally glimpses its hidden residents: a slender doe with a small blue tag on one ear and a tiny spotted fawn with wobbly legs. From then on she observes the deer family daily and records them carefully in her notebook, coming to understand that deer need safe places to walk and eat.
When fallen branches block the narrow path between the woods, the doe stamps her hoof while the fawn presses close to her. Lily fetches Mum, and together they join the conservation volunteers who look after the meadow. Lily helps gather branches, clear tall weeds, flatten the soft earth and hang a wooden sign asking for quiet at the wildlife crossing. Jane MEADOW's gentle story about patience and quiet observation can be read on Kids Tale Book.
