On a bright spring morning, Ben puts on his yellow rubber boots and straw hat and goes out to look after the animals on his family farm. Near the big red barn and the sleepy cows, a small, soft cry leads him to the sheep pen, where he finds a newborn lamb with creamy-white wool and long floppy ears, still wobbly on its thin legs. His mother explains that the lamb arrived during the night and needs help staying warm and fed, and Ben asks whether he can be the one to care for it.
Ben fills a bottle with warm milk and waits patiently until the lamb takes its first sips. He wraps it in a soft blanket, gives it a red ribbon collar with a tiny brass bell, and names it Pip. Each morning he feeds Pip, and each evening he checks that Pip is warm, adding straw on chilly days and carrying the lamb out to the sunny grass. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW follows Pip's first steps and growing trust in Ben, and it can be read on Kids Tale Book.
