Henry the hippo spends his days in a calm routine along a peaceful riverbank, eating fresh green plants and watching the water drift by. One sunny day a white egret named Ella lands close to his big round nose and introduces herself. Curious and full of questions, she returns every day, and the two very different animals gradually become friends.
When a rabbit family, two turtles and a young deer cannot find a safe place to rest because fallen branches block their path, Ella flies off to fetch Henry. Working side by side, Henry moves the heavy wood with his strong body while Ella watches from above and warns him about sharp rocks and holes. Later the pair help a little bird find a safe hollow for her eggs. Written by Jane MEADOW in simple, warm language for young children and early readers, this gentle tale about kindness and cooperation can be read on Kids Tale Book.
