In a cool, dark cellar beneath Farmer Joe's farm, the potatoes wake each night when the moon is high. On this night they prepare for a secret midnight dance contest, and a round, golden-brown little potato named Spud watches the others practise with hopeful eyes. Spud loves to dance, yet his short legs tangle and his round body wobbles, and he fears he is too clumsy to join in. His best friend Pip, a slim cream-coloured potato with a curly green sprout and a bright blue bow tie, urges him to find his own moves rather than copy everyone else.
When Masher the judge, a big brown potato in a purple vest, calls the dancers forward, Spud's heart thumps and his feet feel stuck to the floor. The contest is interrupted by Turnip the Troublemaker, who slips in wearing a black cape and tries to spoil the fun. Written by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN for children who enjoy gentle fairy tales with playful characters, this story can be read on Online Masal and explores self-belief, loyalty and friendship.
