Mia loves visiting her grandmother, Grandma Rose, whose home smells of warm cookies and holds a quiet mystery: a small iron gate hidden behind tall bushes. On full-moon nights, a silver glow shines beyond the bars, and Grandma Rose explains it belongs to the moon garden, locked for many years. Mia can only watch from her window, wearing the small silver key on a red ribbon her grandmother gave her, and learn the lesson Grandma repeats: good things come to those who wait.
When the key finally grows warm and the gate swings open, Mia steps into a garden of glowing moonflowers and meets Lumi, a tiny fairy no bigger than a teacup who guards the place. Lumi explains that the flowers bloom only under moonlight and only when cared for with patience and love, and she gives Mia an acorn watering can. Night after night Mia waters each plant, counts the drops, moves snails gently aside, shelters a delicate bud from a strong wind and keeps the flowers company through a dark, moonless night, never giving up even when she is tired.
