High above the village, the Velvet Mountain is covered with grass that feels like velvet under bare feet and shifts through shades of pink, gold, and green as the light changes. Mira, a small girl with warm brown skin and curly black braids, spends her days tending her family's sheep there, always accompanied by her little sheep Pip, whose bell jingles as he follows her. She loves the mountain more than anything.
When travelers drawn by the famous grass begin to arrive, their guide Tomas invites them to take pieces home as souvenirs. Mira watches the grass thin and bare spots appear, and after heavy rain she sees muddy streams running down the slope. Her grandmother Gran explains that the grass holds the soil in place and that without it erosion washes the mountain away. Mira decides she must act, and this tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows her brave approach to Tomas and their plan for a guided path. Read it on Online Masal.
