In a busy harbor town, ten-year-old Mira carries her tool belt everywhere and fills her head with inventions. Her closest companion is Pip, a seagull wearing a red neckerchief, and together they watch Captain Sal bring ships safely into port. Mira longs to help as well, and she often stops at Old Tom's bakery, where the warm scent of vanilla plants an idea in her mind.

When a thick grey fog settles over the shore and hides it from view, the sailors lose their way home. Remembering Old Tom's remark that vanilla makes everything better, Mira wonders whether a lighthouse might send out a scent rather than only light. With Captain Sal's assistance and Old Tom's vanilla, she plans a fragrant beacon at the top of the lighthouse. This gentle story by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows her careful preparations and the moment the scent drifts out to sea. Readers can find the tale on Online Masal.
