In the green woods, Rusty the squirrel spends his days playing in the high branches and soaking up the sun, always returning to his cozy nest when the sky turns pink and purple. One evening he lingers outside and meets Olive, a small owl with golden eyes and a little blue scarf, who is just waking as the night begins. Olive shows him the stars and the shapes she finds among them, and the two learn that their daily routines are very different.

Their twilight meetings become the best part of each day, filled with races along branches, hide-and-seek among the leaves and snacks from Rusty's acorn satchel. They teach each other what they know, and when a gust of wind carries Olive's scarf into a prickly pine tree, Rusty climbs up to bring it back. Written by Jane MEADOW for young children and the adults who read aloud to them, this gentle tale about friendship between those who are different can be read on Kids Tale Book.
