Pip, a small penguin in a red scarf with white stripes, sets out to explore a bright icy shore. Near the water he meets Splash, a young seal pup with silver-grey spotted fur and a tiny blue satchel, who has never come this far up the shore before. The two become friends and wander off together, passing towers of blue ice that look like castles and a clear pool where Splash swims while Pip peers down at the pebbles below.

They travel farther than either has gone, talking and telling stories, until Pip loses track of the way back. A stretch of cracked, wobbly ice blocks their path, so Pip climbs a tall bank to look around while Splash scouts the water ahead. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW shows how friends can share what each is good at, and it can be read on Kids Tale Book.
