The Rocket's Garden

The Rocket's Garden by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN introduces Mira, a curious girl with curly black hair worn in two puffs, who rides a most unusual craft through the starry sky: a flying garden. With Captain Lu, the calm commander in her navy flight suit, Jun, a lanky boy who measures every drop of water, and Pip, a small one-eyed robot wearing a red scarf, Mira tends tomatoes, lettuce, beans and flowers as the ship travels toward Mars.

One morning Pip's eye flashes red, and the crew learns that a cracked pipe in the watering system is leaving the plants wilting. The damage is too great to mend in flight, so the four friends must keep the garden alive by hand, pot by pot and planter by planter. Fatigue and kinked hoses soon reveal that good intentions alone are not enough, and Captain Lu suggests a watering schedule that gives each crew member responsibility for particular plants, including a tiny sprout needing extra care. This gentle tale can be read on Online Masal and suits children in the early primary years, read aloud or alone.
