Percy is a gentle penguin living in a far, cold land where snow never melts. With his sleek black back, snowy white front and a small red knitted scarf, he fills his days sliding down smooth white hills, splashing in bright blue water and watching the seals and gulls. He knows every rock and quiet corner of the snowy shore, yet most days he plays alone.

One grey afternoon, dark clouds gather and the gulls fly low and fast, and Percy senses a winter storm approaching. As he turns toward his cozy snow den, he hears a tiny peep near a frozen rock. There sits Pip, a palm-sized seabird with fluffy pale grey and white feathers, ruffled by the frost and far from its nest. Percy offers to help, and when the deep snow proves too much for Pip's tiny feet, the little bird climbs onto his warm back. This tale by Jane MEADOW can be read on Kids Tale Book.
