On a misty Hawaiian mountain, a little nene goose hatches from a cracked egg and begins to explore the world around him. His wanderings lead him to a hidden garden between two hills, where he meets Kiki, a tiny honeycreeper with a curved beak and a black mask around her bright eyes. The two become fast friends in a place they call their secret garden. But soon the sky darkens and a great storm rolls over the mountain, forcing every creature to shelter from the howling wind and driving rain.

When the storm passes, Nene and Kiki find the garden in ruins: branches block the paths, flowers lie flattened, and seeds are scattered in the mud. Together they seek out Old Menehune Owl, a wise grey-brown bird in a woven lauhala leaf cape, who teaches them that a storm is strong but friends are stronger. With shy Pua the puaiohi and the other birds, the animals form teams to clear branches, gather seeds and replant the garden. Written by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL, this tale can be read on Masal İzle.
