In a snowy village set among tall pine trees, a girl named Lumi fills the short winter days with her favourite craft: making lanterns. Her grandmother, Gran, shows her how to fold paper and bend thin wooden sticks into shapes, and she often reminds Lumi that even a small light can push back the dark. Wearing her red wool coat, yellow scarf and blue mittens, Lumi works beside Pip, a little fox with rust-orange fur and a brass bell on his collar, as they get ready for the village winter celebration.
Lumi sets out to brighten the long, dark pathway where villagers will gather at nightfall. She starts with a bird lantern, then shapes a fox lantern after Pip's notched ear and bushy tail, and goes on to make rabbits with long ears and cotton-ball tails. Paper tears and glue fails along the way, but Gran's gentle advice that every mistake teaches something keeps her going. This quiet tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN follows her growing collection and her steady effort, and it can be read on Online Masal.
