High in a gum tree lives a little kookaburra with cream and brown feathers and a wide, always-smiling beak. Each morning his laughter rings out and wakes the forest, and even after sunset he feels a giggle bubbling inside. One night he hears a tiny rustle and meets a shy possum peeking from a hollow branch, his long tail curled like a question mark. The possum admits he hides because it feels safer, and starts to back away.
Instead of letting him go, the kookaburra invites the possum to a secret hollow tree that makes funny noises. Step by step the possum follows him down the gum tree, past the ferns, to the old echo tree. When the possum whispers hello, the tree whispers back; when the kookaburra laughs, the echo bounces like a game. Slowly the possum's tiny giggle grows into joyful laughter. This gentle tale by Aysel Banu YAVUZAL can be read on Masal İzle and is suited to early readers and as a bedtime story about friendship and shyness.
