Felix the fox looks out from his den one bright spring morning and decides the plain brown hill needs some colour. He puts on his green gardening apron and straw sun hat, takes up a tiny shovel and a packet of seeds, and plants red poppies, yellow daisies, and purple lavender. Each morning he carries water from the stream, and each afternoon he pulls weeds with careful paws until green shoots appear and the first poppy opens in the breeze.
The garden draws a small butterfly named Pip, who lands on Felix's nose and asks to stay. Pip invites her friends, and butterflies of many colours shimmer over the hill for nectar, while a shy blue and purple butterfly named Luna hides behind a leaf. This gentle tale by Jane MEADOW is suited to young children and to reading aloud, and it can be found on Kids Tale Book.
