Maya, a young geologist with curly black hair in two puffs and a bright, curious grin, loves rocks, maps, and mysteries. When Professor Ostrander shows her a photograph of crystals growing straight out of the desert floor, she grabs her notebook and geology hammer and sets off to study them. Together they reach a desert that sparkles like a sea of glass, where tall clear towers and tiny pink clusters rise from the sand. The professor explains how mineral-rich water once soaked the rocks, dried up, and left crystals to grow bit by bit over thousands of years, and Maya writes down every word.

Their work is interrupted by Ricky, a lanky boy in a backwards red cap who arrives with a chisel and a bucket, eager to chip off a big crystal for his room. Maya steps in front of the crystal and explains that each one is a clue to the past and that breaking it would destroy it forever. Professor Ostrander backs her up, and Gran, who has come only to look and take memories home, adds her gentle support. Ricky begins to understand that a treasure is best when everyone can enjoy it, and he puts his chisel away. The tale can be read on Online Masal, written by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN.
