In The Cinnamon Clock, Emma visits her grandmother Rose and discovers a tall wooden clock carved with cinnamon leaves. Every hour the clock releases a different scent, and each scent carries a family memory. When it puffs cinnamon, Grandmother Rose remembers baking cinnamon rolls with Emma's father on Christmas mornings. Fresh bread brings back her own mother's early baking, and roses recall the grandfather Emma never met and the bush he planted for their first anniversary. Pine, chocolate, lavender soap, coffee, apples and rain on a summer day follow, each opening another small story about parents, an uncle and a great-aunt Emma barely knows.
Listening to the clock, Emma begins to see it not as furniture but as a keeper of family stories. She takes out her notebook and draws it, writing its name in big letters, and decides the stories should be written down and shared. The visit ends with the two of them baking cinnamon rolls together, adding a new memory for the clock to hold. This gentle, warm tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN is written for early readers and for adults reading aloud with a child, and can be read on Online Masal.
