On a bright green island in the wide blue sea, a puffin with black and white feathers and a bright orange beak spends his mornings on the cliff, wondering about the faraway islands on the horizon. A tern with a slender white body and a thin orange-red beak keeps him company as they watch the distant shapes and wish they could see them closer.
One day Puffin finds a tiny brass telescope in the sand, no bigger than his wing, and through it the faraway islands suddenly feel near. The two friends take turns studying each island carefully, noticing trees, a waterfall, a nest and a flock of birds that might be their cousins, and on a third island they slowly work out what a strange grey shape on the shore really is. This gentle story by Çınar BİBER, which can be read on Masalcı Baba, follows their curiosity, patience and sharing, and suits children in the early primary years, whether read aloud at bedtime or enjoyed by newly independent readers.
