The Little Warthog's Friend

On a wide, sunlit savanna, a small warthog lives by himself, his warm grey-brown bristles and big floppy ears framing a shy, cheerful smile he has no one to share. Watching birds and butterflies drift past, he wishes for company of his own, until a slender mongoose named Pip races by and asks why he sits alone.

Pip does not find him too slow, and together they set off toward a hidden valley past the termite mounds. Along the way, each difficulty becomes a quiet lesson: she matches her steps to his short legs, he carries her over a rocky ridge, she guides him through tall grass and, when darkness hides the path, her sharp eyes lead them home.
