The Little Rescue Dog

In a sunny mountain town, a little puppy named Scout lives with his handler, Maya. Scout dreams of becoming a search dog like the ones he watches every morning. With his soft golden-brown fur, cream chest, and bright red training vest, Scout is eager to learn. Maya introduces him to Rufus, a wise older dog, who teaches Scout that following your nose is the key to search work.

Scout faces challenges as he practices. He loses scents and feels discouraged, but with encouragement from Maya and Rufus, he learns to be patient and to breathe deeply. He discovers that practice makes progress and that teamwork makes the journey enjoyable. When a hiker loses her backpack on the mountain trail, Scout gets his chance to prove himself. He uses his training to track the scent, overcoming obstacles and self-doubt. This heartwarming story by Jane MEADOW shows young readers the value of perseverance, teamwork, and believing in oneself. The tale can be read on Kids Tale Book.
