Down by a sparkling river, two little otters named Olive and Oscar spend their days playing in the water, chasing minnows, and somersaulting off mossy logs. Olive, the older sister with a red ribbon behind her ear and a cream-colored belly, and Oscar, her rounder, shorter little brother with a blue cord bracelet on his paw, are usually happy together. But one sunny morning, Olive finds a smooth, flat rock at the river's edge and declares it her special rock. Oscar wants it too, and the two siblings begin to argue, each tugging at the rock and insisting it belongs to them. Their happy morning turns grumpy.
Just then, two young otters, Pip and Sunny, arrive and ask to play. Seeing the argument, Sunny gently points out that they seem to be arguing, and Olive and Oscar feel embarrassed. Olive's quick mind comes up with a bright idea: they can make a game where everyone gets a turn on the rock. Oscar's frown melts into a grin, and he volunteers to be the splash-caller. The four otters take turns sliding down the rock, calling out silly splash words, and cheering each other on. The game brings laughter and joy, and the otters learn that sharing makes everything more fun. Written by Jane MEADOW, this heartwarming tale can be read on Kids Tale Book.
