The Little Pika's Friend

High on a windy mountain of gray rock and wide sky, a little pika spends his days gathering grass and watching clouds, but he has never had a friend visit. One crisp morning, a snow finch lands on a nearby rock, resting on her way south for the winter, and the two quickly become companions. The pika shows her his favorite places, and they play hide-and-seek among the stones.

Their happy afternoon takes a serious turn when the finch warns that the first snowfall is coming and the pika admits he has no shelter. Together they set to work, with the finch choosing a rocky nook protected from the wind, the pika carrying tufts of soft grass, and the finch bringing twigs and moss.
