The Journey of a Button

Maya looks forward to market day and to the six big yellow buttons on her red coat, counting them as she moves through the crowded stalls. When a little button pops off in the push and pull of the crowd and rolls away, a quiet journey begins for a small, bright object that passes through many hands.

First it reaches Mr. Tailor, who polishes it and promises it will find its way home. Then Pip, a glossy black bird with a bright orange beak, carries it off as a shiny toy before dropping it into a basket of yarn, where Granny Jo the toy maker gives it a new purpose. Written by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN for young readers and suited to reading aloud, the tale can be read on Online Masal and follows one button through a tailor's pocket, a bird's beak and a toy maker's basket, gently exploring care, belonging and the unexpected ways small things connect people.
