The Girl and the Salamander

Maya enjoys wandering the forest close to her home, and on a bright afternoon she crosses paths with Ranger Ella. The ranger takes her to a calm stretch of the stream where they search for salamanders, and Maya soon finds Spottie, a little salamander with shiny dark brown skin and vivid yellow spots. Ranger Ella explains that these creatures are amphibians depending on clean water, shade and hiding places to live.

Maya begins writing habitat details in her notebook, observing how clear and warm the water is and where shade and food can be found. Spotting a plastic bottle in the stream, she and Ranger Ella take it out and talk about why keeping nature clean matters. This tale by Çınar BİBER follows Maya as she shares what she has learned with her friends, and it can be read on Masalcı Baba.
