In a small town beside a green woodland, Sam spends his afternoons watching the animals around him. One morning he notices a red squirrel with russet fur and long ear tufts carrying an acorn up a tall oak, and he decides to learn everything he can about it. With help from his teacher, Miss Leah, Sam starts a notebook recording the squirrel's habits and finds that the animal relies on trees for food, shelter and safe travel between branches.

When Sam sees that some parts of the woodland have too few trees, leaving the squirrel exposed as it crosses open ground, he brings his notebook to class and suggests that the children plant native woodland trees. Planting day becomes a practical lesson in digging, watering and caring for soil, and the whole town gradually joins in. Written by Çınar BİBER, this gentle story about observation and responsibility can be read on Masalcı Baba.
