Sophie and her tiny puppy Teddy share a big day: their first puppy school lesson. With her green treat pouch ready and Teddy wiggling in her arms, Sophie meets Ms. Hazel, a friendly teacher who explains that the class will learn simple cues like sit and come, using treats as rewards. Sophie feels a little nervous but mostly excited as Teddy's fluffy tail wags so fast it is a blur.
The lessons do not always go smoothly. Teddy is easily distracted by a bright red ball, a spot on the floor, and even his own tail, and sometimes he sits when Sophie asks him to come. But Sophie never gets cross. She crouches low, calls in a cheerful voice, rewards every small success, and gently guides him back to the task. During a break Teddy climbs into her lap, and Ms. Hazel praises Sophie for being so gentle, explaining that this builds trust. Written by Jane MEADOW, this warm tale can be read on Kids Tale Book.
